Thanks to all our great volunteers for such positive results throughout the year.

We have worked together with "No Excuse" towards making a difference by helping thousands of people.

For our 2008 International Children’s Day we catered for 260 children and in 2009 an amazing 2,000 children.

Last year's Outstanding Children's Achievement Award ceremony inspired 45 schools comprising 36,140 students and 2009 Awards totalled 57 schools comprising 41,386 students, of which 120 students received a certificate & a gift bag containing educational material and treats.

We have enjoyed working throughout the various countries, and with your continued support we will endeavour to continue to do so in 2010.

For the future, I would like to see continuity and the expansion of contributions towards development. Support should promote independence and minimize dependence.

Thanks again
CEO, Samuel

Agie gave gifts to five generations of women in the same family

We randomly distribute gifts to people in rural villages who we see working, the gifts we give can be the equivalent of four to six months salary, sometimes even more for bigger families. This is an enjoyable ‘paper free’ development program that helps the local economy.

National Disaster Relief

Gambia's rainy season brought severe floods throughout the region.

Around 450 people were left homeless with their belongings destroyed.

Hearts to Africa, National Disaster Relief Committee, The Media and Laico Atlantic Hotel hosted a meeting to discuss strategies for assistance.

Image

Hearts to Africa provided clothing, foot wear and other materials to the National Disaster Relief Committee,  We have also agreed to work together to help more people in the future.

Sulayman is one of the many flooded victims.

This family lost their home and all their possessions. Fortunately for Sulayman who works at the Laico Atlantic Hotel and volunteers for Hearts to Africa, we were able to provide essential items for his family and friends in order to allow their children to continue schooling without disruption.

Sulayman: - Your support to us has allowed us to help many people.

Thank you.

Gifts and Volunteers

From 4th November 2008 to 4th November 2009, Hearts to Africa’s operational cost totalled at £12,744 this is made up from financial donations and membership fees.

Many thanks and great appreciation goes out to our outstanding unpaid volunteers. With more like-minded people our successful achievements will continue to help thousands of people in need.

For the past 12 years our overall estimated value for all gifts reached more than half a million pounds, in which we have no financial gain. All donated gifts have benefited thousands of people and together we have formed short and long term development programs for the people we help.

Due to such programs we have been able to carry out successful Voluntary Projects throughout the UK, Jamaica, Gambia and Uganda.

We look forward for your support in 2010.

Thank you

THE CONTINUATION OF YEAR 2008 PLANNING DEVELOPMENT IN THE DRC

African Family Reunion (AFR) is a small voluntary organisation which was set up to help the people of the DR Congo and African families separated by the slave trade.

ImageImage
Mr Ray Reynolds and Mrs Anna Reynolds

Honoured for past development projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo

ImageImage
Government Ministers and African Chiefs

Mr Ray Reynolds, Co-founder of AFR was honoured by the DRC Government for his commitment in trying to help Africans around the world to unite in peace in order for all to develop a better future.

The DRC Government gave Mr Reynolds one thousand six hundred acres of land located in Lake Mai-Ndombe and Bankana and thanked him for his contribution.

Mrs Anna Reynolds, Co-founder of AFR was born in the DRC and was also honoured alongside her husband Mr Reynolds, but years before Mrs Reynolds was given her mother’s ancestral land which totalled more than a hundred thousand acres of land located throughout (Bandundu), Bulungu Kwilu and Bagata.

By using Google Earth Locater you can view the size of the land plus the villages.  A guideline for the full length of the land is the Kwilu River.  It would take a boat 8-10 hours to travel end to end.

As part of AFR development programme they gave the land to the local people to live rent free, which started a slow but sure development process.  The first signs were, for the last 10 years the complete rent free area which totals fifty thousands plus families has been crime free and peaceful.

As from 2009 to 2012, the aims & objectives of African Family Reunion and Hearts to Africa will be a development program called “Unlimited Voluntary Community Commitment”.

UNLIMITED VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

Improvements of villages, public buildings, build eco waste sites, clean drinking water and worldwide networking.

On the 3rd October 2009, the DRC – AFR Team will work with a minimum of 1000 local village people in the improvements of their villages, public buildings, waste sites and clean drinking water.

Image

Each village will take some time out to help in the improvements of their village, we look forward to everyone’s support.

Hearts to Africa believe if your development program is limited to the size of its finance, then your program will be of a limited size.

Please support us.

More than one way to say thank you

THE CONTINUATION OF YEAR 2008 KATHANTHA VILLAGE APPEAL

Kathantha Village appeal started because Mrs F Mansaray three year old son was involved in a petrol fire incident that burned over 97% of his body. Her son died because there was no first aid facility within 6 miles of his village.

Ms Kaday Rose Kamara - Director of African Caribbean Re-Union, travelled to Sierra Leone and delivered First Aid to the Regent Chiefs and local Health Officers.

The Regent Chiefs, Home Management and Committee Members

Thank you African Caribbean Re-Union, Mr Kali, Mrs Pigott and Hearts to Africa for the medical aid sent to Kathantha and surrounding villages. We have agreed not to use the village school as a First Aid facility centre but will use as a temporary option our two-room Home Management office shown in this photo, until we can build a suitable building.

The Regent Chiefs: - “we will wear our Hearts to Africa tee-shirt with pride”
